Jassi Oberai

Jassi’s interest in photography goes back as long as he can remember. He shares his love of photography with a love of travels. His camera has taken him through length and breadth of India and across the globe. Along the way he has gained a deep insight to intricacies of this sophisticated art form. Jassi is never happier than when he is wandering with his camera either on his own or while leading a group of photo enthusiasts, trying to capture a spectacle in the magical light. After having worked relentlessly for years together in association with several like organizations Jassi has ventured on his own.“As a photographer I do not restrict myself to any particular genre of photography. Overview of the Photo Tour

Get a glimpse of what’s in store

This winter, join us for an exciting experience capturing the festivities at Hornbill Festival and explore the rich culture of North East India.

This tour offers you unique experience to interact with tribes and inhabitants of small villages of Nagaland. With the key focus on Hornbill Festival, we will also cover the Majuli, which incidentally is the world’s largest river island. To ensure you get the most of this tour, we will also take you to Kaziranga National Park and let you capture the beauty of one horned Rhino.

In this photo tour, we will create opportunities for you to explore the least explored and most pristine and culture rich regions in North East India. This tour is lead by the award winning Landscape and Travel Photographer Himadri Bhuyan who being a resident of that area understands this place as back of his hand.

DAY 01: ARRIVE JORHAT
Reach Jorhat by Flight/Train and transfer to Majuli on boat via the river Brahmaputra. At Majuli if time permits, we go for a sunset shoot after checking into our hotel/resort.

  • Reach Jorhat max by noontime so that we can catch the ferry to Majuli. The last ferry is at 3PM. In case your flight is scheduled to reach late, plan your arrival in Jorhat one day early.

Day 02: Exploring Majuli
Our day two begins with an early morning village exploration to understand the colourful ‘Mishing’ (tribe) culture. This will be followed by different “Satra” (Vaishnavite Monastery) visits to learn about and photograph ‘Mati Akhora’ (foundation training of Sattria Dance), ‘Mask Making’, ‘Bhaona’ (Traditional Theatre that tells different stories from our epics “Ramayana” and “Mahabharata”) and satra life in general. We retire for the day at Majuli itself.

DAY 03: Majuli to Kaziranga
We start our day before dawn and start with a Sunrise shoot. Then we have a relaxed breakfast and move towards Jorhat the same way we came to Majuli, on the boat. From Jorhat we transfer to Kaziranga where we shall have an overnight stay. A relaxed evening will be made colourful by a folk dance performance by the village locals and we shall call it a day.

DAY 04: Exploring Kaziranga
A jeep safari in one of the ranges of Kaziranga National park will introduce you to the natural wealth it contains including the much sought after “Indian One Horned Rhinoceros”. After lunch, we move to Kohima for the final leg of our tour.

DAY 05: Hornbill Festival
This day marks the opening ceremony of the “Hornbill Festival” at Kisama Heritage Village and is an amalgamation of all the major tribes of Nagaland where they present us with their food, culture, traditions, etc. It’s a festival unlike any other in the world and is visited by people from all over the world. Overnight at Kohima.

DAY 06: Village Tour
We start this day early and visit a couple of villages in and around Kohima to understand and photograph daily life. This day will be a treat for portrait photographers. Overnight at Kohima
